School Description:

Kaikohe Intermediate School is located in the Kaikohe Township, which is the largest service centre of the Mid-North.

90 – 95% of our students identify themselves as Maori, with the remainder being European, Pacific Island and Asian.

The local environment is revered for its spiritual strength and historical significance. This area is the turangawaewae of Te Iwi O Ngapuhi, the Ngapuhi people.

Kaikohe Intermediate School is a relatively small Decile 1, State, Co-educational, Intermediate School of approximately 200 pupils. Pupils come from two large contributing schools in Kaikohe - (Kaikohe East and Kaikohe West Primary Schools), and three smaller rural schools - Tautoro, Ohaeawai and Waima.

Kaikohe Intermediate School was established in February 1969 on the site that was previously Kaikohe Primary School and before that, Kaikohe District High School.
